Leading car park design and build contractor, Metpark UK, is proud to support grass roots football through the sponsorship of two local under 9’s girls’ teams.
Euxton Girls FC was formed in 2002 by current Chairman, and devoted Grandad, Dennis Winn after his granddaughter told him she’d love to be able to play competitive football.
The Club is aimed at girls aged between 5 and 18 years old and presents an opportunity for them to discover the game and recognise their talents whilst building confidence and earning essential life skills such as teamwork and sportsmanship.
Euxton Girls FC has 16 teams registered in six different leagues and also has a development squad registered as an official FA Wildcats Centre.
Last year the club established a new under 9’s team, blending players from its Wildcats squad with new sign ups. Once word got out that the team had been established the number of players increased allowing them to play competitively against other girls’ teams in the region.
There are now two under 9’s teams, North and West, with some players performing for both teams. Each team plays in a local league: Under 9’s West in Poulton and District U9‘s mixed league and Under 9’s North in Poulton and District U9’s girls league.
A highlight of the squad’s form so far was a narrow defeat at home for Under 9’s West. It was their first ever league game and their first match against an all-boys team. After an early lead where the girls were leading 2-0, the game finished at 3-4. A valiant effort from the youngest Euxton Girls team ever to play in a boys’ league.
Metpark UK’s Design Manager, David Chester, is one of the team coaches and father of a future female football superstar who plays for both squads.
With lockdown three in place, the teams have been unable to continue playing but are looking forward to getting back on the pitch once restrictions are lifted.
